Local Authorities

The Climate Outreach Information Network (COIN) is the UK’s leading provider of climate change training courses.  We have workshops for many sectors of the community including businesses, local authorities, community organisations, and trade unions. A suite of COIN’s courses have been designed to address the many new challenges facing local councils, including the advent of national climate indicators and a growing body of national policy and legislation.

What are the workshops like?
The workshops are interactive, combining formal presentations with group exercises and discussion. The mix is designed to give participants the tools and enthusiasm for individual and collective efforts to tackle climate change.

Course content is based on our close links with experts in the field of climate change communication, and draws on the latest research on communications and behaviour change. COIN has a team of highly experienced facilitators developing and delivering our materials.

Where have these workshops been presented?
Our Local Authority clients have included: Derbyshire, Manchester, Middlesbrough, Nottinghamshire, Oxford City, Reading, Staffordshire, Suffolk, Vale Royal and Warwickshire. In Gloucestershire, COIN has delivered a major package of trainings to senior staff in the City, County and District Councils.

What other clients has COIN worked with?
Other clients include DEFRA, the NHS, LUSH, National Grid Transco, Guinness Trust Group, the British Council, the Environment Council, the Rotary Club, UNISON (the trade union), the Welsh Assembly Government and many community organisations

''I'd like to place on record Warwickshire County Council's gratitude for the assistance COIN gave us in developing the Warwickshire Climate Change Strategy.  COIN acted as a critical friend at a number of crucial points in the strategy development process, ensuring that the quality of what we produced was significantly higher than we could have achieved on our own"
Martin Stott,   Head of Waste & Environment , Warwickshire County Council
